OCAY is a niche charity, offering people over 50 in the York area, advocacy and practical support to access services and benefits, making a positive impact on people’s lives.
We have helped 308 people in the last 6 months, in very tangible ways, assisting with benefits, energy, finance, health, housing, consumer complaints and more.
IDOP Celebrations
Joining the UK network of Age-friendly Communities, every year, on 1 October, people from across the world come together to mark the United Nations International Day of Older People (IDOP).
As part of the much loved and well-established 50+ Festival, the York Older People’s Assembly (YOPA) is leading a celebratory series of events from 24 September to 2 October 2024.
Find out more on the YOPA website https://www.yorkassembly.org.uk/idop/
For IDOP, we’re holding 3 drop-in sessions, where you can learn more about the value of volunteering.
Research indicates that volunteering is linked to enhanced health and well-being and decreased levels of depression and stress.

“We are excited to be involved in the IDOP celebrations not only to raise awareness of the life changing support that is available through OCAY but importantly to shine a light on the fulfilling and flexible volunteering opportunities we offer. You can choose what work to take on according to the time you have available.
We couldn’t do our work without the support of our amazing volunteers and would love anyone with a little bit a time on their hands to come and join us.”
Ali Rogan, OCAY Trustee
