Age UK York has been working with and for older people in York for 40 years. We provide a wide range of personal and practical support, including information and advice and arranging for respite care.
Other services include our befriending service, helping people after a stay in hospital and holidays for older people.

York Mind is an independent provider of high quality mental health services in York and its surrounding area. Our wide range of services help individuals as they recover from a variety of mental health conditions. We are a leading local provider of services supporting individuals recovering from mental ill-health to achieve outcomes that will progress them towards recovery, social inclusion and integration in mainstream activity such as learning, volunteering or employment.

Alzheimer’s Society is an organisation that works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of our 20,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform our work.

York Carer’s Centre supports carers through three key areas:

- Young carers
We work in partnership with carers, statutory and voluntary organisations to ensure carers, throughout York, have access to confidential information, advice and support. We work with carers to influence positive change in service delivery with local government, employers and health providers.

York Carers Forum is a user-led group of Carers and former Carers over the age of 18 yrs who live, work or care for someone who lives in the York area. We are a UK based Registered Charity and so we rely on fundraising and donations and freely given time in order for us to provide unpaid carer support for those living in the York area.

York Wheels Charity 1988 to provide transport services for the benefit of the community. The service is aimed at people who have mobility problems who cannot afford other modes of transport.
Volunteer car driver scheme
York Wheels runs a volunteer car driver scheme where customers can book a car in advance to collect them and take them to their destination. The charge depends on distance travelled. To book ring 01904 630080

YOPA members are all over 50 and our member organisations represent the main groups working with older people in York.

Citizens Advice York (CAY) provides independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone who lives or works in York on their rights and responsibilities on a wide variety of issues; including welfare benefits, debt, money advice, employment, housing and homelessness, immigration, consumer, relationship breakdown and other legal matters.

MySight York is a thriving, independent local charity, working to help people with sight problems to be independent. Our Mission is:
To advocate, develop and provide, services and facilities which enable people who are blind or partially sighted, achieve independence with dignity, in all aspects of life and sectors of society.
At MySight York we pride ourselves on providing individually tailored information, support or services for people in York. We can help anyone with a sight problem, you don’t have to be registered blind or partially sighted to use our services.

Healthwatch York is your way to influence local health and social care services – hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries, home care services and many others.
We:
- Provide information about local services to make sure you know how to access the help you need
- Signpost you to independent complaints advocacy if you need support to complain about a service you’ve received
- Listen to your views about local services and make sure these are taken into account when services are planned and delivered. We want to know what is working well, and what isn’t

We provide a general advocacy service, self-advocacy service and NHS complaint advocacy, as part of York Mind. We have previously worked within the mental health sector. We have as part of our work supported a range of vulnerable people including those with learning disabilities, older people and people with physical and sensory impairments, autism and Asperger’s and young people. We have developed a service which delivers high quality advocacy support on a range of issues from housing, access to services and benefits.

We offer free support on energy issues to anyone in York on a low income, aged 50 or over, or experiencing a long term physical or mental health condition or disability.

Musical Connections run community music sessions and projects for older, isolated and vulnerable people in care and community settings across York. We also run a large programme of intergenerational events, which bring our beneficiaries together with local schoolchildren and students, and provide free transport for anyone who needs it.

Kyra – https://www.kyra.org.uk/
Kyra are a registered charity in York that exists to help local women make positive change in their lives. They offer a range of courses, therapies, life skills and events for women, from their relaxed, comfortable, city centre location. They welcome anyone who identifies as a woman and is over the age of 18: they have a young women’s project (the ROSE group) for those aged 18-25 (see under Activities) but all women are welcome to join any of their activities.
The door will always be open until every woman in the area feels safe, supported and able to be the person they were always meant to be.
